about my work
Very often I work with opposites in my pictures, which are not only show in the image but are also reflected in the different levels of the applied technique, the image content and statement, so they might need a closer analysis: minimum - maximum, abstract - specifically, reduced - detailed, precise -- blurred ...
I don't use a universally valid technique for my images, instead with the work on new subjects I often have to decide on new but related technique, that, on the other hand, is already a separate subject on its own and of equal importance for me.
about the "drawn faces series"
Each day, probably billions of photos are taken and developed, in newspapers and magazines, on the Internet we face them constantly, on television even 25 times per second. Photos have become a kind of second reality to us, that we -to avoid visual overstimulation - have learned to not longer consciously perceive.
Only through the transfer in a painting or drawing it becomes again a subject of interest, it is pulled from its banality. It's like applying a filter to (re)connect to the viewer.
The drawings are deliberately simple and original portraits of people and yet they are intensely perceived among the daily images noises .
Therefore, for me the photorealistic drawings are not an end in itself but only a means to an end to achieve a better perception of the original photo and its documentary content.
Contrary to this is the aspect that the drawings are not (strictly speaking) copies from photos, but my perception of them, they are more of a reconstruction from memory, like a phantom image drawing.
about my figurative work
The works put the human being as an individual into its center, which are reminiscent of collages drawings, in which the characters are isolated -itensified by strong contour lines- on the paper. In its kind they remind of the cutouts by Howard Kanovitz.
The blank paper serves as a key element of the composition and often the only connection of the characters to this abstract space (the reality) is only a weak shadow.
